In a recent high-profile event in London, West Bengal showcased its strong commitment to global engagement and collaborative growth. Organized by the High Commission of India in the UK, FICCI, and the UK India Business Council (UKIBC), the ‘Interactive Business Session on Opportunities in West Bengal’ highlighted the state’s ambitions to deepen ties with the United Kingdom, emphasizing how Indian communities abroad can leverage these partnerships for collective progress.

Advancing UK-India Relations and Inclusivity

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led a delegation that underscored West Bengal’s vision for sustained economic development through technology-led innovation, advanced manufacturing, and robust service sectors. By showcasing West Bengal’s investor-friendly climate—marked by streamlined policies and modern infrastructure—the session illustrated tangible ways UK-based Indian professionals, business owners, and organizations can contribute to both the UK economy and the evolving economic framework in India.

British dignitaries and business leaders echoed a growing interest in forging deeper synergies, recognizing West Bengal’s potential as a gateway for commerce throughout Eastern India and Southeast Asia. The discussion also reinforced the importance of integrating local Indian communities more closely into mainstream British society, encouraging them to explore mutually beneficial initiatives that drive business, employment, and cultural exchange.

Pioneering Sports Collaboration: Manchester City & Techno India

A landmark announcement during the session was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Manchester City Football Club and Techno India Group, aimed at establishing a specialized sports school in West Bengal. Building on the success of the Manchester City Football School in Kolkata, this new project will benefit from official Manchester City coaches who will relocate to India and provide world-class training programs. Beyond strengthening West Bengal’s sports infrastructure, this collaboration highlights how Indo-UK alliances can enrich communities through youth development, knowledge-sharing, and social investment.

Unlocking High-Impact Opportunities

Representatives from notable organizations, including Reliance, RP Goenka, and Laxmi group, shared stories of thriving operations in West Bengal. Their experiences emphasized how single-window clearances, skilled human resources, and a maturing consumer market make the state attractive for British companies in diverse sectors such as IT, manufacturing, infrastructure, and services.

With its extensive educational and research capabilities, West Bengal offers fertile ground for global enterprises to expand while simultaneously creating pathways for local and diasporic Indian communities to engage in business, technology upskilling, and socio-economic initiatives.

A Shared Vision for Growth

Throughout the event, Chief Minister Banerjee underscored the crucial role of the Bengal Global Business Summit in fostering long-term relationships with international partners. Her invitation to more British stakeholders, including think tanks and community organizations, aligns with a broader mission to develop comprehensive ties that can simultaneously advance the UK economy, uplift Indian communities in Britain, and fuel sustainable development in India.

By uniting commerce with community-focused values, West Bengal’s outreach in London exemplifies how strategic, inclusive partnerships can foster shared prosperity. For UK-based Indian groups seeking to amplify their economic and social contributions, engagement with West Bengal’s evolving landscape offers a concrete avenue for influencing policy, driving innovative ventures, and strengthening India-UK relations for generations to come.
